HTTP Server
The Apache HTTP web server is the most deployed web server in existance.  Apache web server is extreamly robust and has a very large community of users.  You can serve out pages of all types with the Apache web server (although you may need to install a mod).  I just recently discovered that you can even serve ASP.NET web pages from Apache.

Apache has a steeper learning curve than Microsofts Internet Information Server due to the fact there is no GUI.  All of the Apache web servers configuration values are held in a text file, the HTTPD.config file.  It takes a little time to get familiar with what's in this file, but once you figure it out, it is easy to navigate.

The most common server side language used with the Apache web server is PHP.  PHP, like Apache web server, stores all of it's configuration values in a text file, the PHP.ini file.  Once again, it takes a little bit of time to get familiar with this file, but once you do, it's easy to navigate.
